MCA (Malaysian Chinese Association) Penang was formed on 27 February, 1949 as one of the eleven state branches of MCA. Since its inception, members of MCA Penang have gone through various phases of national development and faced many challenges in safeguarding the rights of Chinese citizens in Malaysia. For the first twelve years (1957-1969) since Independence, Penang State Government was under the leadership of MCA with Tan Sri Wong Pow Nee as the first Chief Minister of Penang. However in May 1969 the Alliance Government in Penang, formed with the coalition of UMNO, MCA and MIC was overthrown by the then opposition party GERAKAN and MCA Penang ceased to be in power.
Through long years of continuing struggle, hard work and facing ups and downs in the Penang State political arena, MCA Penang never-give-up. Once again, it came back strongly in Penang politics in the 1995 and 1999 general elections, winning handsomely in all the seats contested.
The present MCA Penang is led by Y.B. Sdr Wong Kam Hoong as its Chairman. There are a total of eleven divisions and two hundred branches with membership of 35,000. Apart from the official duties of taking care the well beings of the people through the respective MCA representatives, MCA Penang is also a strong social activity server.

We are now recruiting young Malaysian Chinese to join as youth members. We also welcome Malaysian Chinese ladies to come forward to join us. Efforts are being made to have more lady representatives at various hierarchy of MCA organisations as well as in the government. The door of MCA is widely open to all Malaysian Chinese who believe in democracy, freedom and justice and are willing to serve the community and the nation.
