Can you share about how you started serving at this Bureau?
Ever since I was in my sixth Form in Chung Ling High School, I was very involved in student affairs. This interest was further nurtured when I went to TAR College where I was elected Head of the Student Business Society, an organization appointed to look after students’ problems and orientation. Serving and helping people was very satisfying for me and so after my graduation, it was very natural for me to join MCA and be involved in politics. Then in 1995, after I was appointed as a MPPP Councilor, I was happy to be given the opportunity to serve in this Bureau.

How many people are involved in this Bureau?
Besides our volunteers, we also have a panel of 6 qualified lawyers who offer legal advice on a wide range of issues ranging from family disputes, immigration to other problems related to the various Government agencies. We also handle missing persons, disputes as well as police-related cases.

How is your work day like?
As the work here at the Bureau is mainly about service, we have very long working hours. Sometimes 12 hours a day doesn’t seem enough for our kind of work. I usually arrive early in the morning to look over the cases and handle phone calls. Then I divide my day equally between the office here and the other service centre in Butterworth. There are also the necessary visits to the police stations, courts and other related Government agencies. And at the end of some days, I still entertain needy cases even when they are referred to me at dinner functions.

So how do you feel about your roles?
As I’ve mentioned earlier, serving people is a very noble cause. Personally, I feel that my character is very inclined towards such services. While we welcome any who seek our assistance, I must caution that our resources are limited. There are some instances where we can really help and then there are other cases where our roles are limited to us just being as intermediaries. However, we still welcome all enquiries about our services at TEL : 04-2284167 / 2284192 or eMail us at mcappg@tm.net.my or mcapg@myjaring.net
