Putting an end to flash floods
Friday February 29, 2008 THE frequent flash floods in Taman Sri Rambai, Bukit Mertajam, will be a thing of the past with the completion of the RM5.7mil Sungai Rambai pump house. It is equipped with four big pumps and two smaller ones and can pump 27,600 litres of water per minute. “This pump house is a project by the Seberang Prai Municipal Council to help reduce flood woes,” said Barisan Nasional Pa-dang Lalang incumbent assemblyman Tan Teik Cheng. Taman Sri Rambai in Padang Lalang has about 1,000 houses and has been flood- prone for 15 years. Tan recently visited the site with Seberang Prai Munici- pal Council president Farizan Darus and Barisan Bukit Mer- tajam candidate Ong Tang Chuan. In this role, I was able to the meet the various heads of Government Department and local authorities and help solve the problems facing the people under my care. I believe I have the necessary experience to understand the problems of the local people as well as the determination to help solve them. After moving from Tasek Gelugor to Bukit Mertajam in 1983, I believe that I have the necessary background and experience to be an effective representative and I hereby wish to ask that the people in Padang Lallang give me a chance to serve them and represent their aspirations in the State Assembly.
